Information overload will sneak up on you like a thief in the night and snuff out your dream of creating online riches. You’ll wake up one day feeling frustrated, confused, discouraged and physically tired – totally overwhelmed by the constant flow of information.
Finding yourself buried in a sea of information is easy to do when you enter into a new environment and you have a thirst for knowledge. You get in over your head when you try to learn too much too fast.
In addition, you’re bombarded with product launches promising “the magic bullet” to skyrocket you business to the top, emails to read and answer, ebooks to download, lots of new information and reports to sift through, courses to purchase, training to complete, affiliate programs to research and join, forums to visit and post at, and tutorial videos to watch.
You can’t absorb all the information and apply it as fast as its coming. So, you begin to feel overwhelmed and find yourself at your breaking point . . . ready to throw in the towel and give up.
There are some life-lines that can be thrown your way to save you. Managing that information and managing your time is a major lifesaver for information overload.
You must also maintain your focus and eliminate any information you can’t use and apply NOW! Exercising discipline and organizing the clutter will decrease the amount of stress you feel, too.
Here are some strategies you can use to help you recover:
1. Select a business model. Research the resources that best suits and support your chosen business model and your goals. Filter out and eliminate any unnecessary information you don’t need and focus on the things that will really move your business forward.
2. Create an action plan. Watching a video or reading an ebook is a good start but what good is purchasing the best information you can buy if you can’t break that information down into an action plan. Create “To-Do” lists and keep a time log, journal, or system to help you manage the information flowing your way and stay on task.
3. Eliminate distractions. In order to focus well and hone in on the tasks you need to get done, you need to eliminate any and all distractions. Turn off the mobile phone, only check your email in the morning or at the end of the day, use TweetDeck or some other application to manage your tweets, turn off the TV and radio, do not surf the internet or play online games. Make a commitment to eliminate as many distractions as possible.
4. Invest in a good mentor or online coach. The quickest way to achieve success online is to follow and model what a successful internet marketer is doing. If you are a total newbie, find a training program that gives you all you need. The investment will be worth it for the time and energy you will save. Quit wasting time flitting from one thing to another, or searching all over the internet for information you don’t need.
5. Apply what you learn. You don’t need to know everything about internet marketing before you start taking action. And don’t be afraid to apply what you’ve learned. Making mistakes is part of the learning and marketing process. So, apply that knowledge before you move on to the next idea . . . TAKE ACTION!
Information overload can be a major problem when you start your online business or venture into internet marketing. But if you make a commitment to apply these strategies, you will be sailing smoothly in record time.
